An individual who laced sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
The man played a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained Ruben continued to conduct the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not gone out by that time," she continued.
The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining the police response of the incident.
The prosecutor said the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement a second time.
She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
